A public subscription has been set on foot for the relief of the sufferers from the Kaitangata catastrophe. The Town Clerk collected £66 in about a quarter of an hour.
The inquiry into the alleged favoritism of certain Government officials in the disposal of tenders for furniture and fittings for Government House and buildings fell through this morning. The complainant, a foreigner, refused to proceed without legal,assistance, which the Commissioner positively refused to allow. Further action is to be taken.
