Monday. The Hon. Mr Sheehan is expected at Fapier during the commencement of the present week from Cambridge by special coach. .
There was a heavy rainfall yesterday, and last evening the rainfall registered
two inches. This has improved the prospects of the farmers.
The annual meeting of the Grand Lodge of Good Templars was opened this morning in the Prote<<Unt Hall, the Hon. W. Fox presiding. The following officers were present :--Hon. W. FoX.G.W.C.T.; Bro. Speight, P.G.W.C T.; Bro. Ewlis, G.T.; Bro. Jenkins, G.T.; Bro. Johnston, G.W.W.; Bro. Hall,G C.; Bro. Jacques, Bro. Lyell, M.W.M. : Bro. Pirani, M M. There were also the following repreBentatives from various lodges throughout ihe co'ony : —Bros. Jacques, Hoskins, and Treat, Christchurch; Potts, Taranaki; Hall and Johnson, Wellington; Hutching, Porangahau ; Anderson, Taradaje; Higg, and Sisters Conisit, and Troy, Napier; Hemus, McGregor, with Bobb and Phillips, Auckland.
A man named Cartwright, a carter, has just been killed through a fall of earth on the reclamation works, and another man was severely injured.
