Telegraphists' Rifle Match.
THAMES F. NAPIER.
There being several fair shots amongst the gentlemen composing the telegraph staffs of Thames and Napier, for some time past there lias been a movement to get up a match between them. It appears that some Napier gentlemen happening to know the shooting qualities of Messrs Bull and Lumsden in the office here, backed them against their local men, and the consequence was the match was arranged to be fired this moiling simrltaneously at both places, each office to be. represented by three men aside; ranges —200. 400, SCO yards Our representatives fired at the Government range this morning with the following result: —. ?00 4,0 500 ya\ds yatds yarvs Ti. Baxter 44533 42^.1 2<«;2S 44 Lurrtlen .. .. .. 3?343 . 421>24 3&.02 41 Ei:).l.. .. .. ..' 23432 22324 3WS3 40 On the team returning to the office they found a telegram had been received from Napier, giving the result of the shooting there, our men being victora by 27 points. The telegram was as follows: —Scores are—Burr, 42; Mog ridge, 27; Bates, 29; total, 98. Very gloomy. Bad light. Baffling wind from right. Better luck nest time, I hope.—D. £L Millas.
