The Government have sent to the Agent General to send but an instructor for a Deaf and Dumb Asylum. - ;: ;

In reference to, the O Connor poisoning caae the Minister of Justice causes a reply to be sent to the Major in which it says:—"The (Sovernmenf after careful consideration: sees no reason for remitting the sentence passed ou this prisoner. The jury who saw and heard the witnesses believed their statements and it is not thought: that their verdict should he .set aside."

A gon. of <F., Mojmtfdn, of the, #ew Zealander hotel, while walking along the beach at the rear of the hotel, found a sealed bottle which he observed contained; paper. On being opened the bottle was found to contain a paper on which the following words were Written: " H.Mi screw corvette Firefly, Captain Harmer Jones, wrecked I|ovember 2,1878, oa the Auckland Isles. A ll lives sated except three A.B's.. and second Engineer. Signed—H. Jones,. Commander; H. Lester, Ist. Lieut. Send relief at oncei Provisions all exhausted. Living on raw penguins. The Lord help us." Generally believed it is a hoax. , „ i Saturday. ; Walter Bishop, of Christenurch, has written to us a- long letter, detailing the circciistences connected with the effeots of the late Mr T. Anson, who died in Wellington Hospital some time since! Bishop entirely exonerates the hospital authorities ana Mr Gillespie from any charge of. improper action in the matter, and testifies that he received nothing but courtesy and proper treatment at their hands.
