County Elections.
The County Elections for the return of two candidates each for the Hidings of Waiotahi, Kauaeranga and Ohinemuri are taking pluce to-day. We say are, because, as we write, the polling booths have to remain open more than two hours longer. The extension of the time for recording votes, and the system of vote by ballot conduce to deprive ordinary elections of interest, especially to evening papers, as there is not much to write about even when a contest is.hotly contested, and the most exciting moment —as at a race meeting—is when the numbers, are posted.
WAIOTAHI SIDING.
The polling place for this riding was Mr Fu^ill's residence, next Waiotahi school house. Captain Fraser acted as .Returning Officer. The ; affair was very quiet, but Messrs Brodie- and Coutts' committee were working hard all day. There is not much doubt of the return of these old representatives— although Mr £. Boss did not want backers who thought he would run Mr Coutts closely for the second place. '
KAXTAEBANGA. BIDING.
The polling for two members to represent this riding took place at the St. George's .Schoolroom to-day. The candidates and their friends were actively employed canvassing, but up to about 3 30 it was computed that not more than 110 electors had polled, and there were only about 30 persons near the booths. The result is very uncertain.
