RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT
THIS DAY.
(Before W. Fraser, Esq., R.M.) , LARCENY.
William Corbett and Patrick Shine were charged with stealing four pigs of the value of £5 from Maungakiri, the property of one Henata Tamati, on or about the Bth inst.
Mr Miller appeared for the defendants, who pleaded guilty. Mr Miller said that a Mr Walmsley, a settler at Waihi, had informed the defendants that there were wild pigs at Maungakiri, and the defendants went and shot them. There had been no concealment; the pigs were brought into Paeroa and sold to Mr Barrett, a butcher.
The defendants said they were willing to pay the value of the pigs, and Mr Barrett guaranteed the payment of the native.
His Worship said he would let the defendants off with a light punishment. They would each be sentenced to three days' imprisonment with hard labor.
ILLEGAL SLAtJGHTEBING. ' William Adcock was charged with unlawfully killing a calf in other than duly licensed premises-
Defendant pleaded guilty. He said that the calf had broken loose, and had injured itself, and he had considered it advisable under the circumstances to kill it. .. -. '.. . . ■

Robert H. T. Gilbert was,charged with having been drunk and incapable in Byre street, Shortland. Defendant pleaded guilty, and was fined 10s and costs.
NEGLECTING TO KEEP A LIGHT BURNING.
Albert Butler was charged with neglecting to keep a light burning over the principal door of his licensed house, to wit, the Commercial Hotel, from sunset on the 7th to sunrise on the Bth inst. Defendant pleaded guilty. Fined Is and costs. CHIMNEY ON FIBB. Martin Murphy was charged with permitting the chimney of the house occu£ied by him on Beach road, to take fire, defendant pleaded guilty and was fined 10s and cost. Court adjourned. ... -'
