CUBE.

The crushing for tbii company at tho Prince Alfred battery will be completed to-morrow afternoon. There have been 90£ tons crushed, and a parcel of picked stuff is yet to go through the single stamper. From the amount of amalgam in hand I should" say that the yield will be something considerably oter 200ozs of gold.' This will leave tho company in a good financial position, and i am informed that the directors hare resolved to expend this money in prosecuting prospecting - works in various parts of the ground, and it has been decided to carry out the following, works as soon as possible : —(1) The winze on the JNo. 7 reef, which is now down 40 feet, will be put down to the No. 0 level, which-be-sides increasing the ventilation will place a rery large block of tho No. 7 reef in a position to be worked. Ihe upper section of the block has proved payable, as ail through it has yielded from an ouv»cc and a-hr.!f to nearly 3 ounces per

{on. It is needless to say that this affords good profit, and when increased facilities are afforded for opening and working the No. 7 lode larger parcels will be taken out, and a lower grade will pay. (2) A winze will be started'on the No. 6 reef, under McLean a'td party's tribute section, where it is expected a considerable stretch of payable reef errisl". (3.) It is also intended to put in a crosscut a few feet to cut a rtrj likely looking leader which Gilmour and party, tribuiers, are wcrk' ing. This leader is on the foolwaH of the footwall lode, and its appearance fully justifies the belief that there is something good in it. (4.) The last woirMsroposed to be done is one which tfEpT'Buager has intended to carry out for foine months past, and the. prospects of it leading to good results are second to none in the mine. The work in question is the putting up of a rise from the IN'o. 1 level on a number of stringers and small leaders to reach their junction with the JSo. 2 lode. This is the reef which is, par excellence, the champion reef of the Caledonian hill, and it is from it that tlie Caledonian, Manukau and the Cure itself in days gone by obtained their best patches. The rise proposed to be put up will reach the junction of the lode with the Nob. 4 and 5 and other reefs in about 40 feet. The nearest operations to where the junction is supposed to be are on the No. 5 lode, but they proved unpayable, and work has been stopped there. The above is the programme that is intended to be pursued, and in addition to the works I have named, the sloping operations in the No. 7 will be continued with, there is every reason to believe, the same success with which they have hitherto been carried out.

The tributers, Duncan McLean and p#rty, have started crushing at the Kuranui battery.
