Boat Accident.

: An accident which, but for the prompt assistance rendered, might have terminated in death happened to-day to a man named Thomas Wilson of the Lake Erie, trading between this coast and the Miranda. It seems Wilson went out in a dingy, and when half-way between Gfahamstown and the Sbortland beacon lost one of his paddles. The boat of course became 'unmanageable, but luckily Mr Roche, at 'the Toll-gate, saw his danger and immediately organised a crew to proceed to his assistance.: • Ere they could- put off,.however, Wilson was seen to be pitched out of the boat, and was ingreat danger. Luckily the crew, who consisted of 0. Burton, Edwin Bray, Benjamin Berriman, and Archibald Buchanan, being all ready and pulling with a will were enabled to rescue him. . The excitement at the end of Grahamstown wharf was naturally very great; Messrs Bennett and Bull also putting off to Wilson's assistance, as well as Mr J. C. Williams and. others. After being landed Wilson ."'.; wan ted to, go down the wharf again, but Mr Roche refused to let him, and the police had to interfere, as Wilson seemed determined to attempt another trip to the scene of his mishap, in search of something alleged td have been lost in the capsize. The man was the worse of j liquor, which may account for the anxiety I and trouble given to a number of people.
