PRICE OF MILK.

(To the Editor of the Erening Star.)

Sib, —I would not have troubled you with any correspondence on. the milk question if "Pair Play V'letter had been treated fairly, but this is" not the case, for where he distinctly mentions two cows as giving 13 quarts your correspondent has it that one gives that quantity, which shows 7 more than double profit. If "Enquirer" '-''will refer to " B.O.C;" letter in the Advertiser a short time ago on the same subject he will find that he gives about the same average as " Fair Play " does to each cow. " Enquirer " states that 13 quarts of milk at 4d, deducting 2s 6d for fodder, leaves 3s Id per day, which in three months will pay for the cow, allowing her to co3t £12. In the first place, I cannot see how he can make it come to 3s Id, or how in three months it will amount to £12. I think if Enquirer would reckon it up a little more carefully he will find he has made a great mistake; or, perhaps he could tell'tis by what rule of arithmetic he has arrived at the above; even if he was correct I would ask how he expects a man to live, for by his reckoning he only allows enough to keep the cows and pay for them* nothing for losses in cattle, labour, and bad debts; I think it is he that is trying to make the public believe black is white. ...

According to his rule of reckoning he could easily make out that tho Thames Milkmen are obtaining money under false pretences, but according to my way of reokoning I cannot see it, nor any One else that has had anything else to do with it on the Thames, for the " proof of the pudding is in the eating."—l am, &c,

Anxious Inqttibeb.
