CALEDONIAN.
Cleaning up for this company at the Prince Alfred battery has shown that the parcels treated are of good quality, and promise well for future operations. There have been 11 tons from. footwall leaders adjacent to No 3 shaft crushed for 29 ounces 2 dwts retorted gold ; 10 loads or tons from Young American reef, yielding 12 ouncea 14 dwts; included in this latter is the result of one ton from the reef upon which the rise is now being put up to meet the Cure reef, and which gave 18 dwts amalgam, making the total equal to 41 ounces 19 dwts retorted gold from 22 tons of stone. No quartz has been crushed from the Cure reef, but the mill will start on stone from this lode on Monday, there being a considerable parcel available. About 18 feet of the reef has been stripped, and the reef has again enlarged; varying from three feet wide-ta^ six inches, and now there is one foot of\ good quartz or 15 inches crushing dirt in * the face of the reef. Some of the stones show goia. The contractors are in with the foot-wall drive 47 feet, which will allow of a large parcel being treated at the mill before any cleaning up takes place.
