Friday. Parliamentary. AFTERNOON SITTING. In the House of Representatives Mr Williams presented a petition against the duty imposed hj the Auckland Provincial Council on kauri gum. The petition^was read. Leave of absence for one week was granted to Mr Tolmie. Mr O'Neill gave notice that he would ask the Government whether they intended to hand over the Thames foreshore to the Thames Municipality. Mr Ballance, Member for Eangitikei, took the oath and seat. Mr Wakefield asked whether the Tribune made a certain statement as regards the abolition measure on the Ministers' authority. Sir Donald McLean replied that the Government were not responsible for newspapers' statements. A question from Mr Pyke, regarding what amount of money was now lying in the Bank of New Zealand to the credit of the Government, was postponed till Friday, when the Financial Statement will be made. Mr Richardson, replying to Mr O'Neill, said no further action had been taken since last session with regard to a railway between Waikato and the Thames.
