We hare much pleasure in calling the ■attention of j our readers to the advertisemerit of our local Choral Society whichappears in our columns this evening.: Among the various public institutions on the Thames there are few that are more deserving of general support than this Society, which has for its object the pro-; motion and cultivation of a taste for the -study and practice of the -noblest compositionsf;of?the; great masters of the art,, at the same ;"time affording agreeable recreation to persons of an intellectual and refined turn of mind. We are quite sure that if its thoroughly public constitution were morp.goiierallykno.iYn.its members would be greatly augmented, as there must be a great many ladies and gentlemen resident among us who are well qualified to take part in its meetings, and as its officers all give their services gratuitously the expenses are keptlat a minimum. The want of an effective string-band and the idifficulty of obtaining music are the chief "hindrances to its success, but the j latte : r would be, easily over come, if. the (cppjnittee had ifundJ3 iin hand; toj Send direct "to England/ arid" this'would Be obtained if there was a larger number of ?subscribers.nWe comraend the subject to the consideration of those who liave it in. their power io assist in so worthy an object. i - "
