- A" passenger named Morris, on board tho City of Adelaide (s) attempted to commit suicide when the steamer was off Wilson's Promontory. He threw himself overboard. A boat was lowered and the man was rescued through the exertions of the third mate .and a passenger named Thomson. They were rewarded for their gallantry with an address and a sum of money raised-by subscription on board. A man named-John Tanner-committed ■uicide by shooting- himself. He had quarrelled with his wife. r - The -river' Campaspe (overflowed,, and flooded Rochester. There wa» a heavy fall,.of rain at .Kilmore,. causing , f the heaviest flood known. A petition' signed by over 3000 persons has been presented to the House in favour of the Railway Refreshment Bill. ' Fifteen petitions against the same have been presented by various members.' ' '' ' Judge, Dunn, at a r recent sitting of the court%at 'Maryborough, behaved in an extraordinary manner, deciding fqr plaintiff in one case,- and for defendant in another ease., though the two,cases were generally alike.' There was an impression in court that this conduct was caused through, an excess of drink.
