THE BRIGHT ' SMILE.
A rather fortunato discovery' has been' made by Mr Benney, manager for the Bright Smile Company. On.ithe bottom level the drive on the maim reef is in a considerable distance, and during the time the pumps stopped working, the action of tho water, which filled • all* the workings," washed away a 'piece 1 oPth'e hanging-wall near to .the shaft., ,It appears that:the, manager took down a piece more, and, having done so, discovered that what hb"'had""'Bupp\)sed' I'*lKr 9T)e the wall was- a bed, of,; mullock containing a number " of ' small veins, with a reef two feet thick on tho "other side ] thus the two reefs ran. parallel with' this division between; them, and which might have - remained undiscovered for 'somo tinic, but for the'circumstance above narrated; This reef and the interlamihations alongside it. will T give "the company over five feet of crashing stuff upon which they had hot "counted; At'preSent '* there are only a few'men employed in tho mine. , I apprehe_nd-that,the .company ar« deferring "tho commenccmeHfc 1 of active operations until their new battery is com-' pleted—which will take, place, ~ it is said, within three weeks.
