George Green was charged 'with feloniously stealing from the brig Drover, on or about the 22nd May, at Grahamstown Wharf, one meerschaum pipe, of the value of 22s 6d> the property of James Stirling. - : ••-'■-■■'-' - •-■ ■ : Accused pleaded guilty. It appeared that accused went to see the prosecutor on the brig, and while there he had the pipe to smoke, carrying it away with. him. It was subsequently found in the possession of Mr Joseph Williams, to whom it had been given to get repaired by a man who had bought'the pipe for 10s. , Accused said he was under the/influence of drink or he should not have taken it. He had offered to; get" it backfor prosecutor. . ' This was corroborated by prosecutor in part. .,.. ■ •._;_ Sentenced to 14 days' hard labor. CHIMNEY ON FIRE, r Jane Hour-was charged with a breach of Borough Bye; law No. 1) section 2, by allowing the chimney of the;house.occupied by her to take fire on the 23rd inst. The charge was admitted. It was accidental, she said. Fined ids and costs. Defendant asked time Jto payfit. She expected her husband on Saturday night. A week" was allowed in which to pay the fine and costs,, amounting to 16s Pd. The Court adjourned.
