A Movikgk Appeal.—What drunkard could hear unmoved such observations as those which, according to the " Detroit Free Press," were addressed the other day by a judge to a man named John Rob.'nson, who, having drunk enoi^jfc liquor at a saloon to "trip him upV shouted for the police, and on their^ obeying tho summons called them liars and otherwise abused them? . "Iwa«," said the prisoner, winking at the judge, " having a little fun." " John Robinson," replied the judge, % are you aware that this is a very solemn world—a world which has ten heartaches to one smile"? "Don't you know that the grim shadow of grief rests upon every doorstep, and that tho tombstones in the cemeteries almost outnumber the trees in the forest P There's wailing in every household, John - Kobinson; there's grief in every heart. And yet you claim that you were only having a little fun." Here the. prisoner broke in with tho words, "That's all, your honour, it was a holiday." "It was," . continued the judge, the tears streaming down his cheeks, "'said fun, John Robinson. While the rest of us were swearing off and making double-back-action resolves, you .were lying at the corner of an alley dead drunk.
