WAIOTAHI ASSOCIATION.

The manager commenced crushing stone from the drive on the footwall leader this morning. The stone comes from the three droppers, which are now being followed up in their course, at a i slight divergence from the footwall leader, upon which nothing further has been at- ' tempted since my last report of this mine, , •when it was stated that the footwall leader had became lost in a black clay seam* Alter some feet of driving on the branches, an excavation was made and the clay seam picked up, but showing little more appearance of making. A little gold is constantly visible in the drop- ! pers, but they arc very small, and interlarded with mullock and rubble; if, how- ; ever, they give as good a return asiasi obtained from the last crushing, there willbe no reason to complain. ;No work has been done on the three feet, or No. 1 reef, but the manager purposes devoting some labor to following it up as soon as practicable. Operations on the reef cut in driving the tunnel'between the two shafts will be commenced to-morrow. ' At the point this reef was cut,' a large sandstone horse divided .it, each section having tho appearance of a separate lode, but on cutting an excavation oi a few feet in the side of the drive, the horse was found to be very short, and a few feet of driving will briug the reefs together. It is purposed to call this new reef No.-2. The quartz is metalliferous to a large extent, aod, from all appearances, is expected to pay for the working so soon as the preliminary operations have been accomplished. There are also' a number of lodes visible in the sides of the tunnel, but the reef spoken of was the only one touched during the progress of the. work" and should it turn out to answer expectations, the prospects of the Company will be materially enhanced.
