CATHOLIC SOIREE.

A most successful loiree and social evening party came off at tho Academy of Music last. night, which was attended by a very large number of persons. The pbject of the gathering was to raise money in aid of the Convent Schools, and we imagine that a considerable sum of money will be obtained after retiring all liabilities incurred, which will not be extensive. Tea and othe* refreshments were served at geven o'clock, until nine o'clock, during which two hours a large numbei of visitors arrived. The refreshments were not the attraction, however, for after nine o'clock, when the dancing commenced, the company was considerably augmented. The capital band of the Hibernian Society was in attendance and played a number of agreeable pieces during tea, and afterwards furnished the music for the dancing. It was very good in every respect;, but had it been otherwise criticism would have been disarmed, for, to the credit of the band be it said, their services were gratuitous. Much of the success of the »oiree is undoubtedly due to the exertions of Father Lonergan, who has been unceasing in efforts since the project was first mooted.
