FOREIGN MUSICAL BROADCASTS

Banned In America (9.50 p.m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 25. Sir James C. Petrillo, president of the American Federation of Musicians, has written to broadcasting stations: “Will you kindly discontinue the broadcasting of any musical programmes emanating from foreign countries, effective from December 31.” The order does not apply to Canada. Mr Petrillo states that the order is designed to protect American musicians against foreign competition. The “New York Times” says the order comes as a major setback to the expressed hope of the United Nations leaders for a great exchange of programmes bv all nations.
