WORK ON ROADS

Activity In Levels County During November 110 hours were spent grading main highways in the Levels County, according to a report by the engineer (Mr E. A. Collins) to a meeting of the Levels County Council yesterday. On other roads in the county 146 hours of work had been carried out. The work on the Saleyards bridge on the Temuka-Pleasant Point main highway had been completed, more than 2500 tons of rock having been placed in the approach and protection riprap above the bridge. Shingling of the Point-Fairlie main highway was continuing. Shingle had been laid on 12 other roads in the county. The Council's crustier was working full time and during the month produced 202 cubic yards of crushed shingle. He had estimated the cost of replacing the Rockwood bridge with three 40ft spans of rolled steel joists at £2775, added the engineer. There would be a £ for £ subsidy on this work.
