NEW PIPELINE
Work Nearing Completion
Timaru will soon be able to use the water supply without any qualms of conscience regarding wastage, as the work on the new pipeline is nearing completion. The changeover has proceeded very satisfactorily, with few delays. ■‘lt is hard to say at the present time when the water will be laid on to the new pipeline,” said Mr R. J. Comrie, Borough Engineer. “I am no prophet. The workmen on the job have worked hard during extended hours. They have put their best into the job. and it will not be long now before the water' will be coming through. We have been fortunate with the weather lately and the work is well up to schedule. Thanks to the care taken by the general public in conserving water, the reservoirs are’ holding well. Their action is greatly appreciated by those concerned with the building of the new pipeline.” Mr Comrie asked that continued care be taken until the water is connected to the new pipeline. Notice would be given as soon as the supply was restored.
Asked how the new pipeline would stand up against any future floods, he said he was confident that, it woul H withstand most deluges. “If a floor! ever carries the pipeline away again it will take a lot of other things with it,” he concluded.
