DEVALUATION OF STERLING
Action Withheld (10.40 p.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 4. The British Cavernment will withhold its attempt to devalue the £ to the vicinity of 3 dollars <0 cents after the United States Government informed it of its opposition to such action. This was learned by the Washington correspondent of the “New York Herald-Tribune.” Treasury sources said one of the conditions of a substantial American loan to Britain would be the continued valuation of the £ at 4 dollars 3 cents.
