Industrial Consumers To Go Without (N Z P A ) AUCKLAND. Oct. 4. No gas will be available to Auckland Industrial consumers to-morrow or on Saturday and, probably, on Monda,. owing to an acute shortage of coal in the Auckland Gas Co.'s works. Restrictions will not ,be imposed on domestic consumers, but they have been asked to exercise the greatest economy. The general manager of the company (Mr R Worlevi said the company had hardly sufficient coal to last until Monday morning, and the Karepo. which had been expected with fresh supplies from Westport, had been delayed Advice from Westport to-night stated that there was no chance of the vessel leaving the harbour before 9 o'clock to-morrow morning, and it was doubtful if she could “”t away then. “Gas will not be available for industries on Monday unless more coal comes to hand in the meantime." said Mr Worlev. “If the Karepo gets away tomorrow morning she cannot get here before Monday morning, and the coal will not be available until later in the day. The next shin coming from the West Coast with coal for th’ cc-’-’inv is the Kaimiro. which is loadin’ at Grevmouth. ghe Is expected to leave on Saturday, and to arrive on Tu»sdav." It is only 15 weeks since gas restrictions were last imposed in Auckland.
