Health Stamp Campaign.— 'The public demand tor the health stamps has been very steady,” said the Chief Postmaster Mr T. E. Thornton) yesterday. The Hon. W. Nash said the Bill improved the system of registration and transfer of what were known as the Brunner leases.—P.A. Pensioners’ Association.—A meeting of those interested in forming a branch of the New Zealand Pensioners’ Association was held at Waimate last week. The Mayor of Waimate (Mr W. F. Boland) presided and welcomed the visiting delegates. Messrs Warner and Grocott, presidents of the Timaru and Oamaru branches, explained the policy of the movement, after which it was unanimously decided to form a branch. Mr Wilson was elected president and Mr Bishop secretary, pro tern, with a committee of 12 members. Still Idle.—For the third successive day, the Blue Star steamer, Empire Falkland, remained idle yesterday. There have been no further developments in the dispute which arose over the dismissal of two winchmen who refused to transfer to other work when the use of the crane was started. The men involved in the stoppage of work, numbering 130, are not being paid and, according to a statement by the chairman of the Waterfront Control Commission, Captain R. E. Price, they will not be given other jobs until the Empire Falkland is worked to a finish. —Auckland P.A. message.
On Licensed Premises.—Convicted of being found on the licensed premises of the Grosvenor Hotel, Timaru, after hours, the . following were convicted and fined £1 each, with costs, by Mr G. G. Chisholm S.M., in the Timaru Magistrate’s Court yesterday:—Allan Mitchell Aitcheson. James Ansley, James Henry Chiles, Peter Moon McLean. Frederick Scott and John Edward Houlihan. For refusing to give his name and address to a constabje, Houlihan was also convicted and ordered to pay costs, 10/-. Sergeant E. J. C. Hay said that Houlihan had expressed regret at his action. His reticence had been due to the influence of drink.
