TIMARU PRESBYTERY Padre Welcomed
At a meeting of the Presbytery of Timaru the Rev. R. J. Griffiths, C.F., was present. The Moderator, the Rev. E. R. E. Ross, expressed, on behalf of those present, the pleasure it gave them to welcome Mr Griffiths after such a long term as a prisoner of war in Germany. In his reply Mr Griffiths returned thanks for the welcome, and told something of his opportunities of ministering to the spiritual needs of the men in the prison camps and also in isolated working parties. On the motion of the Revs. M. W. Wilson and J. N. Reid, the Presbytery unanimously nominated the Rev. A. McNeur. formerly of St. Andrews parish and now stationed at Westport, for the position of Moderator of the General Assembly for the term 1946-47. A deputation consisting of Messrs G. A. McGregor and R. B. Hart, representing the South Canterbury Presbyterian Social Service Association, introduced by the Rev. F. H. Wilkinson, waited on the Presbytery in connection with establishing an old people’s home in Timaru.
