Broad Reorganisation (11.10 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Oct. 2. President Truman has authorised a bread reorganisation of the Navy to take advantage of the knowledge learned from wartime experiences, including:— (1) The ultimate abolition of the position of Commander-in-Chief of the United States Fleet and the transfer of his duties to a Chief of Naval Operations. (2) The establishment of a central office for the co-ordination of research and experimental tests and also an office to co-ordinate all procurement, contracting and production activities, <3> The creation of new posts of • deputy chiefs within the various bureaux in order to find suitable positions for outstanding officers who achieved flag tank in wartime.
