Red Cross Sub-Centre At the invitation of the Pareora Red Cross there was a record attendance of parents, friends and returned men in the Pareora Hall when ex-prisoners of war were the guests of honour at a social. On behalf of the committee Mrs J. A. Munro welcomed the visitors. Cards were played and a concert programme was contributed ta by Mr and Mrs L. Neil. Mrs Pooke, Mr S. Patterson, Misses A. Wright and A. O'Connor. Songs were given by the school children, and a play was enacted by Monica Wright. Dorothy Gibson, Joy and Jill Beck. A community sing was led by the returned men. After supper dancing was held to music supplied by Mr S. R. Patterson. Mr A. Depree was M.C. Welcome Home Social A well attended welcome home Was extended to returned servicemen and women. The guests were: Sub-Lieu-tenant W. D. Bennett (Navy), L/Cpl K. Macphail and Sapper Ron Smith (ex-prisoners of war), L.A.C. Fred Anderson, W.A.L. Win McLennan and Corporal Gwen Whittacase. Mr R. W. R. Munro, chairman of the services committee extended a welcome to the men, and thanked them for the great part they had taken in the war. To the prisoners of war he expressed a wish that all the grim memories would soon be forgotten. Messrs Morgan, R. Cruickshank and A. Hanson (R.S.A.) also spoke. Mr R. Munro presented each man with a gift. Ex-prisoners of war paid a high tribute to the Red Cross. Music for the dance was supplied by Mrs R. Patterson and W.A.L. McLennan. Mr R. Munro played a bagpipe extra. Mr S. Rogers was M.C.
