LIFT WORKERS’ STRIKE
Arbitration Move (11.25 p.m ) NEW YORK. Sept. 28. The lift drivers’ strike entered the fifth day with thousands of workers remaining in enforced idleness. The first gleam of hope for an early settlement appeared when the War Labour
Board persuaded the strikers and building owners to accept arbitration. Mr F. La Guardia (Mayor of New York) in a broadcast appealed to the strikers to return to their jobs “as a token of good faith to their fellow wage-earners and organisations." He pointed out that the strike had already cost employers and workers millions of dollars. .
