RED CROSS APPEAL
Street Day Raises £lBO Yesterdav the Timaru Centre of the Red Cross' Society made its annual street appeal, and last night, when some returns had still to come in the result was more than £lBO. This is the first time that the street collection has not been conducted in conjunction with a shop day. and the sum was somewhat more than last year's figure. V.A.'s. assisted by members of the St. John A' .bulance Brigade were posted with collection boxes throughon! the town until the late afternoon The Centre executive expressed apnreciation of the public response to the appeal and pleasure at the result ol the 1945 collection. A practical wav qf returning thank* to the Red Cross Society was lound bj at least one former prisoner of wai who gave a 10 - ncte to a collector She offered him change, but he to’.her it was his “thank you" for thkindly interest in his welfare shewr bv the Society and for the life-savini Red Cross parcels he received durinhis years in Germany.
