ORARI BRIDGE

Welcome Home Social The Orari Bridge Patriotic Committee and residents welcomed home Corporal W. A. Johnston. Driver P. C. Lyons and Private H. Lewis who returned recently from the Middle East. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mr J. Coulter. The “first on the floor” waltz was won by Miss M. Scott and partner and the Monte Carlo by Miss Audrey Lee and partner. Mr R Woods was M.C. Mr C C. Burdon, chairman of the Patriotic Committee, in expressing pleasure at the return of the guests after a good record of service overseas also touched upon the responsibilities of peace. He wished the men success in the future and called upon Mr F E South to make a presentation from the residents. In presenting a rug to each guest Mr South took the opportunity of wishing the recipients success in the future. Miss E. McLean on behalf of the Women’s Guild, presented a parcel of comforts to each of the guests. Corporal W. A. Johnston and Driver P. C. Lyons returned thanks, and paiji a tribute to the Women’s Guild from whom they had received numerous parcels during their sojourn overseas Personal Sergeant-Major Wheatley. Christchurch, and Corporal J. Markham. Dunedin, are the guests of Mrs Burke, "Clareleigh.” Mr and Mrs Gibson. Christchurch, are visiting Mrs Metcalfe. Miss Moira Markham. Dunedin, is visiting relatives in Orari Bridge. Mrs J. Quantock, Anama, has returned home after a visit to her parents, Mr and Mrs F. Pratt, “Richmond.”
