The rebuilding of the famous La Scala Opera House in Milan, which was badly damaged by bombing, is proceeding with such vigour that there is everv prospect that it will reopen for ncrforimiuc.es on the traditional date. December 26. Repairs to the roof are I almost finished, while all boxes have been renovated. The rebuilding plan includes the enlargement of tlie stage, improvements to the lighting, and heller accommodation lor 50.000 costumes which were transferred for safety to the country during the last stage of the war. It is known that the Allies have allocated 20,000,000 lire to the reconstruction of the theatre, while a gift of another 1,000.000 lire recently came from Signor Toscanini, who, ii is hoped, will return Io conduct the opening performances.
