TRANSLATION ERROR RESPONSIBLE

The Federal Communications Commission explained that a translation error was responsible for Its report on Sunday that a Chungking broadcast stated that Emperor Hirohito had abdicated. The new Chinese translator of the F.C.C.’s Hawaii monitoring station used “adbicate” for “ingratiate’’ when translating a Mandarin broadcast from Chungking.
