RUGBY SELECTIONS
Sir, —As a mere follower of football I am rather perplexed following certain complaints concerning the selections of Island and provincial sides. This year South Canterbury has beaten Canterbury, which in turn has had a win and a loss against Otago and a win and a loss against West Const. Otago has beaten Southland and South Otago and the games for the Seddon Shield have been of varying fortunes. All this means is that, theoretically. South Canterbury is the best side in the South Island' and yet. last Saturday it was defeated by the Mackenzie Sub-Union. The conclusion I arrive at is that Tie Mackenzie Sub-Union should next year invite the Island selectors to see its men in action and to invite the South Canterbury Rugby Union to nominate players to visit them and be viewed at the same time.—l am, etc., Clueless.
