HELP FOR BRITAIN
Government’s Intentions Sought (N.Z.P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 25. Mr W. J. Polson (National, Stratford) gave notice in the House to-day,’to ask the Minister of Finance the following question: "In this hour of the Mother Country's urgent need of food, raw materials and export trade, and of the large accumulation of sterling funds now idle in London, will the Government place orders with British firms for an urgent supply of agricultural implements and other machinery and materials necessary for a special postwar production effort in New Zealand to provide for: (1) The maximum possible primary production in New Zealand. (2> The maximum possible supplies of food and raw materials to Britain. (31 The employment and agricultural experience for returned servicemen. <4> The consequent help toward prosperity in Britain and New Zealand. (5) The encouragement of free enterprise without increasing the public debt.
