Ml' A. Campbell Clarke, of Napier, has been appointed Dominion Headquarters Commissioner for Rover Scouts. Mr and Mrs A, Shipman. 14 Rolleston Street, Timaru. have received advice that their son, Signalman lan F. G. Shipman, who has been a prisoner of war in Japanese hands for three years, is safe and well. Reference to the death of Mr W. Thomas was made by the president of the South Canterbury Justices’ Association iMr G. H. Andrews) at its luncheon yesterday. Mr Thomas had been a vice-president cf the Association and an associate membr of the Children's Court, said Mr Andri ws. He had been a valued member of the Association and Mr Andrews said he was indebted to him for his help and advice. Timaru had lost one of its most valued citizens and one who had won the admiration and affection of all who knew him. A motion of svmps'hy with his relatives vzas passed by the meeting. Mr P. B. Foote w elected a vice-president of the South Canterbury Association at a recent meeting.
