FIVE OFFICERS EXECUTED
Eye-witness Story (7.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 25. An eye-witness of the execution of five Australian officials on Nauru by the Japanese on March 26, 1943, has told how the men met their end. A native police boy told the Nauru correspondent of the “Sun” that he peered through a door and saw the first man. Dr. Quinn, beheaded with :■ sword He felt panic-stricken, but later saw the Japanese remove the bodies in a truck. The native says that just as dawn was breaking Japanese officers gathered the white men in a room and told them they were to die by beheading The bodies were buried. The Japanese took care to hide all the evidence of their crime. They burned the victims’ clothing. The correspondent adds that who gave the order for the execution is not known, but the police named Lieuten-ant-Commander Nakyama, a Marine staff officer, as having been present at the beheadings.
