Discussion With Minister Cost Of Canadian Supplies (F.0.P.R.) WELLINGTON. Aug. 24. The statement that he would be meeting representatives of the wheat, industry on Tuesday was made by Ihe Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. I). G. Sullivan) in the House of Representatives to-day while Mr W. <l. Polson (National, Stratford) in the Budget Debate was speaking on wheat prices. Mr Polson suggested that the Government should pay 7 6 a bushel to all farmers prepared to sow wheat. He submitted that such a policy would induce many small farmers to plant wheat, in the hope of a substantial reward. The result would be Ihe quantity of wheat to be produced during the coming season would be considerably increaser]. He reminded Mr Sullivan that with the Lend-lease gone there would be a high rate for shipping charges and the price for overseas wheat would lie considerable. He asked the Minister what was being paid for the Canadian wheat purchased bv the Government. The Minister said it was obtained under the Mutual Aid Agreement. The situation might change now the whole qia lion being under discussion. Mr Polson: But what is the price? The Minister: H is under discussion. Mr Polson: The price is high? The Minister: Yes. Mr Polson said he was anxious to see the New Zealand farmers produce wheat and they should be paid 7 6 a, bushel. The Minister: 1 am meeting representatives of the industry on Tuesday next.
