WHARFAGE CHARGE ON FISH

Authority Given Timaru Harbour Board Authority has been granted the Timaru Harbour Board by the Price Tribunal to levy a wharfage charge of lid a case on fish landed at the Port of Timaru. This charge is' additional to the £1 a year made on each fishing vessel for anchorage at the port. The necessary by-law now requires to be prepared for submission to the Marine Department. This information was given the Board yesterday by the chairman (Mr P. S Goodman). On the recommendation of the Board’s Finance and Administration Committee, it was decided that ships of more than 1900 tons register, working less than 500 tons of New Zealand or Australian cargo, should pay only one harbourmaster’s fee. Recently the Board agreed on proposals to increase certain port charges, one of them being that ships exceeding 1000 tons, working less than 500 tons of cargo, should pay harbourmaster's fees, both inward and outward, lhe decision yesterday means that the previous charge for this type of ship will be unaltered. When in Wellington. Mr Goodman interviewed the Price Tribunal Authorities on the subject of the Board's application for increased dues, and the application is now receiving consideration by the Tribunal.
