Five Persons Dead
Celebrations At San Francisco (7.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON. Aug. 15. A San Francisco message says that five persons died and 300 were sent to hospital after peace celebrations in the San Francisco Bay area. People stormed trams, smashed store windows, looted liquor stores and tore up everything moveable. Fire brigades were constantly answering false alarms and extinguishing bonfires. A record 4863 tons of paper were collected from New York streets in 24 hours’ celebration of the peace announcement.
