DREW FUSE FROM BOMB
Award Of George Cross (Rec. 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 13.
Lieutenant-Commander E. O. Gidden. the first man holding the G.C., G.M. and 0.8. E., won the G.C. for coldblooded heroism when in 1942 he drew the fuse from a bomb near Charing Cross after six hours’ perilous work. The bomb clock was ticking over the last seconds as the fuse was drawn. The War Office was threatened and was evacuated while he worked.
