Social Evening
The friendly spirit between Maori and pakeha was evident at a social given recently by Mr F. Barrett and his daughter,' Mrs H. T. M. Beaton, at the “Homestead.” Various poi dances and othei- Maori items were interspersed with novelty dances. During an interval Dr. F. A. Scanned .(Temuka) paid tribute to the Barrett family and thanked the host and hostess for a very enjoyable evening. Othei' speakers were Messrs H. Dodds (Timaru), G. A. Harris (Mayor of Temuka), A. Bain and Bussell (Temuka). Novelty dances were won as follows: Twilight waltz, Mrs Bussell and Mr Dodds; statue waltz. Mrs Brown and Mi' Rex South; twilight waltz, Miss Chapman and Mi’ Ron South; lucky hat dance, Miss King and Mr Dodds; lucky spot,, Mr King and Mrs Solomon; second lucky spot, Mi' and Mrs Southby; jitterbug exhibition. Miss Leila Hanifin and Mr Percy Talbot.
