TE KUITI TRAGEDY
Young Woman Fatally Shot Man Gives Himself Up To Police (N.Z.P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 22. After the fatal shooting of a young woman at Te Kuiti at 1 o’clock this morning., a. young man gave himself up to the police. He was subsequently arrested on a charge of murder. The victim was:— Mrs Lois Ypres Fitzgerald, aged 25, a half-caste Maori, of Te Kuiti. Deceased, who was married with two children, was living apart from her husband, who resides in Wanganui. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs William Hetct, well-known To Kuiti re- • sidents. The first information of the tragedy was given to Constable Reid, who was aroused from his bed by a man who stated be had shot a young woman. Mrs Fitzgerald was found in a dying enndif m. She was removed to the Te Kuiti Hospital, and died this morning. The man arrested was a pakcha who returned from overseas service in Jan nun afl- r tour years’ absence.
