t DEAREST LITTLE PEOPLE. t So many of you, have been wishing for a fall of snow. If ell, .;. you’ve hail it —the heaviest jail that 1 remember. 1 could hardly believe, my eyes last Saturday morning when *£ I woke up and looked out upon a while, white world. It was such ,i. a lovely picture that I dressed hastily and ran outside to see. it better. Tall trees with drooping, white arms; thick while walls £ where once had been green hedges: the telephone wires were like 5" white ropes; and the apple trees looked as though fairy fingers ’J had covered them with cotton-wool. Everywhere was whiteness — persil whiteness. The sun rose and the snow glittered- -lovely, >:♦ X lovely picture! So ran my thoughts until 1 spied the broken branches of my £ pet big benthaemia tree. Then I saw that everywhere were broken ❖ X branches and branches off the big pine trees, branches off the oak ,j. * and the broadleaf; my pretty red manuka had snapped and crashed ';* •I- into the fronds of a tree fern. The birds were flying aimlessly ❖ X about; the while kittens were poking their noses from under the X house; anil what of the sheep and the cattle? Then my thoughts X fled to Europe where people were underfed and underclothed. How * would they fare in winter-time? Snow is lovely, but it can be so X cruel! X Whizz! Rang! My thoughts were rudely interrupted as a snow- £ hall struck the side of my head. The rest of the family had arrived ❖ X and a merry fight, ensued. Then, we built a snowman with a X jaunty hat. a clay pipe and a red carroty nose. After that was more * snowballing; then breathless and glowing we raced inside for a X X cup of hot cocoa.
