COMMERCIAL PRODUCE MARKET

DUNEDIN • (N.Z.P.A.J DUNEDIN, July 20.Leliveries of milling wheat have i been negligible. Heavy falls of snow last week-end further delayed preparations for spring sowing, and will also . have the effect of addmg to the difficulties of farmers who have been ‘ anxious to make up leeway with addiI tionai sowings. I The majority of the millers have i secured their immediate requirements | of oats, with tiie result that offerings | are going largely to merchants. The i shipping demand has eased appreci- ! ably. As yet it is too early for seed oats to have any bearing on the inar- ! ket. Heavier supplies of chaff are reaching the market and merchants have ample stocks on hand to meet immediate requirements. The shipping demand for chaff has also eased. Potatoes continue to be in short supply, and all lines coming to hand .are immediately disposed of to the retail trade. Dunedin merchants have to look to Canterbury for their requirements, but supplies in the chief producing areas of Willowbridge and Morven are not heavy. It is expected that the potatoes from Australia will all go to the North Island. Business in seeds has been quiet during the week. Values for cocksfoot, browntop. Chewing's fescue and Italian ryegrass arc all inclined to ease a little. No change has taken place in the demand for perennial ryegrass, white clover and dogstail. A few lines of Montgomery reel clover are coming on to the market. Prices for both certified and uncertified Montgomery red clover remain firm. There is a good demand for all classes of pedigree seeds.
