RETURN TO BRITAIN

Duke Of Windsor’s Plans (7.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 18. The Duke of Windsor has arrived in Washington on a private visit. He will leave for Canada to-day. The Duke lunched with a group of Senators and high Government officials at the Statler Hotel. Mr Hugh Fulton, one of President Truman's aides, arranged the function. The Duke told reporters that his interest in American post-war plans

was the reason for his visit. He added that he planned to go abroad after the war. Asked where, he replied: “Your guess is as good as mine. I have absolutely no idea.” The Duke said he expects to confer with his Majesty and Mr Churchill in August. The Duchess of Windsor will accompany him to England. He had no plans about his future occupation or home. The Duke shook his head when asked if he might be appointed Governor-General of Canada, but admitted that he would accept the post if it was offered. He added that he and the Duchess were going to France after their visit to England to look after some property there.
