Hundreds of Italian prisoners are used for unloading. The depot is one of many established throughout Britain to receive components from hundreds of factories and to distribute them to housing sites. One of the biggest depots, at Kirby. Liverpool, will serve Mersevside and the North-West. Others will be at Burnley. Leeds. Hull. Aycliffe (for the North-East), Ruddlngton (near NottinMmm.l. Castle B’-omwich. Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Aberdeen. The Kirby centre will shortly be ready to distribute complete houses in the Manchester region.
