GERALDINE AND UNRRA

Sir. —The letter of “Geraldine Resident” suggesting the urgent need of clothing for Europe was delivered in Geraldine on a Sunday morniftg when residents collected their papers off a foot of frozen snow. It was not difficult to visualise the plight of the distressed of Europe who are without adequate food and clothes in lands where intense snow is common. Your correspondent will be glad to know that Mrs Orbell, Group Scoutmaster Ross and Guide Captain Firman already had arrangements in hand for a house-to-house appeal on Saturday. Geraldine residents by responding well can make it a worthwhile effort, and no doubt Red Cross Sub-Centres will make collections in country areas.—l am, etc., Douglas C. McKechnie. Mayor.
