Timaru Has Clothing Ready

The honour of being the first branch of the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild to answer the appeal by UNRRA tor clothing for Europe may belong to Timaru —yesterday 14 cases containing 1000 garments were packed and labelled ready for shipment and another nine ' cases, containing 1000 garments, were almost ready to be forwarded to Wellington. Anticipating an extra appeal as soon as the war in Europe was over, the committee of the Timaru branch had a clothes drive in April, so that they had a large supply on hand when last week's appeal was received. The Mayoress (Mrs A. E. S. Hanan) asked for extra assistance with, the mending and remodelling of the garments, and members of the Guild worked hard for several days, and with the assistance of church guilds, various women’s organisations, schools, country members and others, 2000 waim garments of the type wanted by UNRRA were ready in record time. Any quantity of clean, mended clothing will be gratefully received by the committee and may be left at tin' Guild depot or in the. Mayoress's room al the Borough Council Chambers. Since the inception of lhe Lady Galway Guild in Timaru, Mr W. J. Taylor has assisted the commi'tee by nailing down and labelline the eases and all-. di-ig to the details of shipping.
