ARRESTS IN TRIESTE
Military Trials Pending LONDON, July 17. “Colonel Bowman, a former Los Angeles lawyer, who is now chief of the Allied Military Government in Trieste, revealed that 33 persons were at present being held on undisclosed charges, involving military security, including the possession of arms and the manufacture of uniforms.” says the correspondent of the Associated Press in Trieste. ••Military police at one swoop a few days ago arrested 12 others, including Guiseppe Pogassi, whom the Moscow radio soon afterwards described as a prominent anti-Fascist. He was released within 48 hours.” Colonel Bowman added that the ether arrested persons were being held pending a Military Government trial. They included Giorgio Jaksetic. editor of the local Communist newspaper and former assistant-chief-of-staff to the town commander during the Yugoslav occupation.
