League of Mothers.— At the monthly meeting of the Timaru Branch of the League of Mothers held in the Women’s Community Centre, Mrs P. Ruston presided and welcomed a good attendance of members and friends. Two new members were enrolled. A travel talk on Northern and Southern Ireland was given by Miss Austin. Danger From Frost.— The succession of hard frosts has made many street corners in Timaru dangerous for motorists, said the Borough Traffic Inspector (Mr D. Cameroni yesterday. The absence of accidents indicated that reasonable care was being taken, but if more frost was experienced corners would become more dangerous, entailing- even greater care. Temperance Union.—The monthly meeting of the W.C.T.U. was held at the Women’s Community Centre, Mrs Cave presiding over a fair attendance. Mrs Middleton conducted devotions. Reports were received on the “White Ribbon,” cradle roll department and hospital visiting. The Sailors’ Rest report revealed that the institution was being made good use of. The July meeting is to be held at Highfield, members to be the guests of the women of St. Paul’s. It being their White Ribbon day Mrs Cave reviewed the paper. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Holdgate and Minifie. Patriotic Parcels.— On Tuesday the Timaru quarterly quota of Patriotic food parcels for servicemen overseas will be packed in the Assembly Hall. As has been the custom, members of various women’s organisations will undertake the making up of cartons and the packing of the parcels, beginning at 9 o’clock, and the Mayoress 'Mrs A. E. S. Hanan) would appreciate the assistance of a few men in the heavier work of packing the cases ready for shipment. As in the past, anyone who wishes to have his or her name on the gift card which is included in each parcel may do so, and give the parcel a more personal touch, by contributing 10/- towards the cost.
